This Minnesota cover band is pretty good about putting together an event schedule that is complementary to situations where we get the best draws for our venues. We attempt to schedule shows NOT in close proximity to our other events, or any other show that may pull the crowd away. We do this even knowing we have a loyal following.
That said: the perfect storm sometimes erupts.
The venue had a debut the NIGHT BEFORE for a band that opened several times and is managed by a national agent. There was also another regional band playing a big show in town less than 30 miles away. What does one do?
We promote.
Our venue, Bogart’s Entertainment Center, gets it. They promote bands heavily. So, when we add in our own promotion, it’s powerful. We had 3 ticket giveaways, we generated excitement and made sure to get the word out to our own channels. The result was every table full….. dancefloor occupied by the second song of the night. And, many stayed until the bitter end. This gives us a sense of relief and excitement upon taking the stage. And this stage is a big, 3-level setup, with newly installed lighting that makes one feel like a true rockstar.
Dave, the house sound engineer, grins as he welcomes back “my favorite band” and we take the compliment to heart. We prowl the dancefloor with the crowd, both guitarists and singers. The crowd grabs the “toys” from the “Sugar Buzz toybox” of supplied fake microphones and tambourines and we give it 110%.
The venue gave US their ALL, so of course, it’s quite easy to do the same.
