It was a first for us: a super cold night in Hudson, Wisconsin. We typically try to stay away from distant shows in the winter, but the owner of the EMPOURIUM enticed us with a stellar appreciation of what bands need (and amplified both the stage and lights), so we decided to put it in our events calendar.
The crowd was enthusiastic, even though we were new to many of them. Although we did have some Sugar Buzz faithful appreciative that we made it to “their side of town”. It was special all around. Superfan Kathleen, who’s been battling an aggressive cancer for a long time, wore her best sparkle to the show. We got her onstage during “Sweet Home Alabama” for some tambourine work and some hugs. It was a special time and we want to create those memories for Kathleen and her loved ones.
To keep things light, drummer Brendan surprised us and the audience with a cluck from his new purchase: a rubber chicken. He deftly snuck it into the song “SHOUT” with the chicken taking center stage for the “yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah” part of the song. It got laughs, and some tips in the tips jar from the audience.
It’s a welcome challenge to keep our audiences engaged, happy and wanting more of the SUGAR BUZZ experience. We work our hardest to make sure we are their band.
