When you’re a Minnesota cover band, you tend to make your summertime gigs outdoors. The vibe is great – the people are happy, the days are longer. With that comes risk: The weather. Storms, heat and extremes of all kinds are the norm in the Midwest.
The kickoff City of Pequot Lakes monthly concert series was June 21st. We prepared. That said, the weather had its say with extreme heat and humidity. That kept the larger crowds on the lakes instead, but there were some hearty Minnesotans who came out to see the band work and sweat in the heat. Cooling cloths, fans, and tons of water kept the crew from expiring onstage. You play your best for the crowd that braved the elements, and we brought it.
A few brave souls got up from their picnic blankets and danced on the grass, even to Metallica – which seemed a bit of an odd choice to play in the heat, but the crowd loved it. At the end of the night, a crew of bicyclists with matching shirts rolled up and created a grassy dancefloor extravaganza, encouraging others to get up and finish the night strong. The band left the stage and finished amongst the dancers, jubilant for having survived the heat.
It’s what you make it in these conditions. We reminded ourselves that a professional cover band gives 100% no matter what. That is what Sugar Buzz is about. Onto the next adventure as Sugar Buzz rides through the summer months in Minnesota!
