It was the first time this Minnesota cover band played at the Wayzata Depot as a part of the Wayzata Rotary Club summer event schedule. The air over the lake was still hazy from Canadian wildfire smoke, but there was a nice breeze and temps were in the upper 70s, so many brought their lawnchairs and were in a great mood to see and hear music. We set up quickly and availed ourselves of some pre-show brats and chips supplied by the rotary club.
The mood was light and happy as we wandered from our stage into the crowd. It was an all-ages mix – and many new to Sugar Buzz. The 90-minute show was customized for a family-friendly vibe, and we chose our songs well as evidenced by the dancing and singing /clapping along.
The unexpected — the trains. You see, this HISTORIC DEPOT still has a busy RR track running by the platform, which was about 30’ from the stage. We had a supposed record 3 trains through during our 90-minute set. Initially stunned by this, Dale started playing FOLSOM PRISION (as it starts with “I hear the train a’comin’) and the rest of the band gleefully joined in until the train passed. The next 2 times? Well, we had to just keep playing. It was fun, humorous and rather expected by the locals. The welcome was so warm to us and we truly enjoyed a beautiful summer evening mid-week.
