An October Friday usually a good night to get people out in the Minneapolis music scene. The leaves are changing. The winds are a bit colder and people want to go inside and listen to music.
This Minnesota cover band had done very well at the Everett-McClay VFW in Bloomington. They were committed to their music presence having both a front bar band and, on occasion, an entire back room devoted to music. Sugar Buzz had routinely played the front bar to fire code breaking crowds, so we decided to give the back room a try on our spring schedule. The reception was grand and the crowd was immense so we agreed to do it again in October.
One thing we had not accounted for: Sir Paul McCartney was going to be playing the same evening.
Apparently, he was with some big group in the 60s called The Beatles? In any case we knew it would cut into our crowd. We still had about 150 people show up ready to dance and party and we joked into the microphone that a Sugar Buzz show was way cheaper than seeing Paul McCartney in concert.
The room was set up so our players could take their wireless rigs and mingle amongst the crowd and make everybody feel a part of the show. We gave it our all and played our hearts out. We are certain we gave a performance that even Mr. McCartney would approve of.
