It’s always great to see Route 47 Pub & Grub on our schedule of upcoming events. It’s one of the best stages in the Twin Cities, with exemplary sound and light techs and a large space to fill. That’s also the part that makes us fret a bit – it’s a large space to fill. So, we were over the moon to see the place was packed at least 30 minutes prior to showtime.
Other factors: our bassist was out and we had a fill-in, Beth’s husband Steve.
All worries faded pretty quickly by the first downbeat. People were in a great mood, singing along, Steve clicked right into the pocket with Brendan (our drummer) and we were off to the races. Part of our job is to remember …. everything. Who’s having a birthday, who is celebrating what, who is new, who is a faithful follower, and all of their names. Some of the band does pretty well at remembering Kimmy and Rodney, who hadn’t seen us in a while. Mike and Sally celebrated their wedding anniversary, and we also remembered the members of other bands who had the night off to come and see us: Balance the Van Halen Tribute, Outlaw Saint, Benjamin Raye and the Empire Players, and more. We shout out to them from the stage.
It’s all about the crowd, after all. Supporting each other, making new friends and followers…. doing our best to remember. And it was a GREAT night for all!
